Actress Melanie Lynskey, best known for her roles in "Yellowjackets" and "Heavenly Creatures," has revealed that despite a successful Hollywood career, she still cannot afford to buy a home in her native New Zealand. The 49-year-old has lived in Los Angeles for 26 years, but she admitted that her biggest dream remains purchasing property back home.
Lynskey shared her thoughts in a recent interview, explaining that the New Zealand housing market has become incredibly expensive, especially in the areas she loves. She described the feeling as bittersweet, noting that while she has built a life in the United States, her heart still pulls her toward the landscapes and community of her homeland. She said she often scrolls through real estate listings online, just to look, even though she knows the prices are out of reach for her.
The actress, who has starred in a wide range of independent films and television series, pointed out that the cost of living and property values in New Zealand have skyrocketed in recent years. This makes it difficult even for well-known actors to compete with wealthy international buyers. She joked that she might have to wait for a miracle or a very lucky break to make her dream come true.
Despite the financial hurdle, Lynskey remains hopeful. She said that she visits New Zealand whenever she can and stays close to her family and friends there. For now, she will continue to call Los Angeles home, but she keeps the dream alive, hoping that one day the numbers will work out in her favor.
