Real estate expert Katrina Campins is sounding the alarm on a major shift in the housing market. According to Campins, the data is clear: people are abandoning dense urban centers in favor of rural properties and farmland. She argues that this is not a temporary trend but a fundamental change in how Americans view homeownership.
Campins points to several factors driving the move. Remote work has untethered many professionals from their office desks, allowing them to seek cheaper land and larger homes outside city limits. At the same time, rising crime rates and overcrowding in major metros are pushing families to look for quieter, safer environments. "The market is screaming at us," Campins said. "People want space. They want a garden. They want a life that doesn't involve a 90-minute commute."
She also noted that the demand for rural properties is pushing up prices in areas that were once considered sleepy backwaters. Small towns near national forests or agricultural zones are seeing bidding wars, while downtown condos sit on the market longer. Campins warned that investors should pay attention. "If you are still betting on high-rise luxury in the city center, you might be missing the boat," she added.
The shift has implications for infrastructure, schools, and local economies in rural regions. While some towns welcome the new tax revenue, others worry about overdevelopment and strain on resources. For now, Campins advises buyers to act fast if they want a piece of the countryside. "The land is not getting any bigger," she said. "And the demand is only going up."
