A fresh ranking from the online real estate platform Houzeo has named Porterville the most affordable city in California, beating out dozens of other towns and small cities across the state. The list, which looked at median home prices, average rents, and local income levels, put the Tulare County community at number one for buyers looking to stretch their dollars.

According to the report, Porterville's median home price sits well below the state average, making it an outlier in a market where the typical California home costs well over seven hundred thousand dollars. The report also pointed out that affordability comes with trade-offs, including longer commutes and fewer high-paying jobs, but for many families, the math still works in their favor.

Real estate experts say the ranking reflects a broader trend of buyers moving inland, especially as remote work gives people more flexibility in where they choose to live. Porterville, with its agricultural roots and quieter pace, is now getting attention from people who might have once overlooked it.
