The Healey-Driscoll administration has opened applications for a new $75 million financing program aimed at helping cities and towns across Massachusetts move forward with infrastructure, clean energy and climate resilience projects. The Build for Mass Infrastructure Loan Program offers low-interest loans to local governments, giving communities access to affordable capital for work that might otherwise stall due to budget constraints.
Officials said the initiative is designed to complement federal funding opportunities, allowing municipalities to stretch public dollars further and maximize the impact of outside investment. By pairing state financing with federal grants, the program seeks to accelerate projects that address aging infrastructure, energy efficiency and preparations for extreme weather.
Eligible projects are expected to cover a broad range of public works, from water and sewer systems to renewable energy installations and resilience upgrades. The program is structured to support communities that may lack the resources to secure conventional financing on favorable terms.
Administration officials framed the effort as part of a broader strategy to modernize public assets while keeping costs manageable for taxpayers. Applications are now being accepted, and local leaders are encouraged to review program guidelines and submit proposals for projects that align with the state's infrastructure and climate goals.
