A coalition of developers, builders, and other real estate interests has pooled $1.2 million into a Super PAC aimed at influencing the upcoming election. The fund is expected to be used heavily against candidate Jawando, signaling a major push by the industry to shape local political outcomes.
The Super PAC, which has not yet disclosed its full donor list, represents a coordinated effort by groups that have often clashed with Jawando over housing policy, zoning reforms, and development approvals. Industry insiders say the money will likely fund advertising campaigns and direct mail pieces designed to sway voters in key districts.
Jawando has been a vocal advocate for stricter affordable housing requirements and tenant protections, positions that have put him at odds with many in the real estate sector. Supporters of the PAC argue that Jawando's policies would stifle growth and drive up costs, while his backers claim the industry is trying to buy the election to protect its profits.
The $1.2 million war chest is one of the largest single political investments by the real estate community in recent memory. Political analysts note that such a concentrated spending effort could dramatically shift the dynamics of the race, especially in a local contest where campaign budgets are typically far smaller.
Jawando's campaign has not yet commented on the Super PAC's formation, but observers expect a heated battle as both sides prepare for a high-stakes showdown over the future of housing and development in the region.
