Dr. Arnold Gazarian, a prominent Fresno dentist whose philanthropy reshaped opportunities for countless students at Fresno State, passed away on June 16. He was 95.
Gazarian was widely known not just for his dental practice, but for his deep commitment to education and civic progress. He served on the Fresno State Foundation Board of Directors and lent his expertise to the Maddy Institute Board, where he helped guide programs aimed at developing future public leaders.
His generosity touched many corners of the university, from scholarships to facility improvements. Colleagues remember him as a quiet force who preferred action over attention, often stepping in to support projects that others had overlooked.
Beyond campus, Gazarian was a familiar figure in the broader Fresno community, supporting local health initiatives and cultural organizations. Friends say his passion for giving back stemmed from a belief that a strong university lifts the entire region.
He is survived by his family, who have asked that any memorial contributions be directed to Fresno State scholarships in his name. A private service will be held later this month. University officials plan to honor his memory with a lasting tribute on campus.
