That question was at the center of a recent industry survey, and the answers reveal a clear split between agents who see coaching as a fast track to higher production and those who remain skeptical about the cost and the return. The poll asked agents not just whether they had used a coach, but also why they decided to invest, and what topics they currently care about most.
Among those who said yes, the most common reason was accountability. Many agents admitted that left to their own devices, they spend too much time on low-value tasks. A coach forces them to set weekly goals, track lead generation, and actually follow through on prospecting. The second most cited reason was skill building, specifically around negotiation and listing presentations. Agents said they needed an outside perspective to sharpen their scripts and close more deals at better terms.
But the survey also captured a large group who have never worked with a coach. The main barrier was price, with monthly fees often running into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Others said they tried a coach once, felt the advice was too generic, and decided to rely on their broker or on free online content instead.
As for the most pressing coaching topics right now, the answers were practical. Lead generation topped the list, followed by time management and working with buyer leads in a slower market. A smaller but notable share of agents said they want help with building a team or transitioning to luxury listings.
The takeaway is that coaching is not a one size fits all solution. It works well for agents who know what they want and are willing to do the work. For others, it is an expense they cannot justify until the market gets tougher.
