The infamous "Watcher" house in Westfield, New Jersey, has a new owner, and the real estate agent who closed the deal is finally sharing the inside story. For years, the property at 657 Boulevard sat as a chilling landmark of suburban terror, haunted by anonymous letters from someone calling themselves "The Watcher." The Broaddus family, who bought the home in 2014, never moved in after receiving the creepy correspondence, which led to a years-long legal battle and a Netflix series.
Now, the listing agent reveals the sale came down to one key strategy: finding a buyer who simply did not care about the home's dark past. "We had to find a buyer who didn't care about the history," the agent said. "Someone who saw the house for what it is-a beautiful, historic property-and not the story attached to it." The agent explained that many potential buyers were spooked by the notoriety, but the eventual purchaser was a local family who understood the neighborhood and was unfazed by the lore.
The sale closed for significantly less than the original asking price, reflecting the stigma that still clings to the address. The agent noted that the new owners plan to renovate and live in the home, hoping to finally erase the shadow of "The Watcher." For the agent, it was a unique challenge in a career of selling houses. "You don't get a file like this every day," he said. "It was about patience and finding the right match." The deal marks the end of a long, strange chapter for one of New Jersey's most notorious properties.
