The organization formerly known as NAIOP has officially changed its name to the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, or CREDA. The rebranding marks a shift for the group, which now represents more than 21,000 members across 55 chapters in North America.
The new name aims to clarify the group's focus. For years, the acronym NAIOP stood for the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. But as the industry evolved, the old name no longer captured the full scope of what members do. Today, the association covers a much wider range of property types, including mixed-use, retail, and residential development.
Leaders of the group say the change reflects a more modern identity. The term "Commercial Real Estate Development Association" is meant to be straightforward and inclusive of all sectors within the development world. The hope is that the new name will make it easier for policymakers, investors, and the public to understand the group's role in shaping cities and suburbs.
Members will still have access to the same networking events, research reports, and advocacy efforts. The rebranding is mostly about updating the public face of the organization. CREDA plans to roll out new signage, digital materials, and chapter resources over the coming months to match the new name.
The association has been active since the late 1960s. This is the first major name change in its history.
